In a major move to boost marine tourism, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Kuwait, HE Salah Al-Maliki, announced that the Kingdom has introduced new regulations to simplify yacht entry for foreign visitors — especially Kuwaitis.
Under the new decision, foreign non-commercial pleasure yachts can now obtain a navigation permit directly from the Ports and Maritime Affairs Department at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, without the need for a marine agent, according to Al-Jarida daily.
The permit, valid for one year and allowing multiple entries, is issued after meeting specific documentation requirements and paying a 50 Bahraini dinar fee (around 40 Kuwaiti dinars). These include a copy of the yacht’s registration and navigation license (or safety certificate), comprehensive insurance, AIS (Automatic Identification System) activation, and crew certification.
The decision also outlines entry procedures requiring vessels to check in at designated Coast Guard points before heading to port for customs and passport clearance.
Al-Maliki emphasized that the initiative enhances maritime security and tourism and supports Bahrain’s Vision 2030 and sustainable development goals. It aims to position Bahrain as a regional hub for yacht tourism and promote environmental and marine sports tourism.
The new rules also require vessels to comply with all maritime laws and remain seaworthy, maintain AIS operation, report incidents, and exit Bahraini waters within 7 days of permit expiry, unless justified.
Ambassador Al-Maliki encouraged Kuwaitis to explore the Kingdom’s waters, describing Bahrain as their “second home.” For information, applicants can visit www.mtt.gov.bh, email yachts@mtt.gov.bh, or call +97317162010 (available 24/7).
