The Ambassador of Thailand to Kuwait, H.E. Songchai Chaipatiyut, has underscored the strength and resilience of Thailand-Kuwait relations, describing them as a distinguished example of enduring friendship, mutual respect, and constructive cooperation cultivated over more than six decades.
He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to further advancing bilateral ties in ways that serve the shared interests of both nations and contribute to the realization of Kuwait’s Vision 2035.
The ambassador made the remarks during an Open Day reception hosted at his residence for representatives of Kuwaiti media organizations, as part of commemorations marking the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the State of Kuwait.
Highlighting the depth of bilateral engagement, Ambassador Chaipatiyut described Kuwait as a valued friend and trusted partner, noting that relations between the two countries are anchored in longstanding goodwill, mutual confidence, and the shared commitment of their leaderships to fostering cooperation across a broad spectrum of sectors.
He observed that bilateral relations have continued to gain momentum in recent years, supported by regular high-level exchanges and institutional dialogue. In this regard, he referred to the meeting between Thailand’s Prime Minister and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the Third Asia Cooperation Dialogue Summit in Doha in 2024, as well as the inaugural round of Thailand-Kuwait political consultations held in Bangkok later that year.
The ambassador noted that both countries are actively exploring new avenues of cooperation in key areas including trade, food security, healthcare, education, and sustainable development.
He emphasized that the relationship extends beyond government-to-government engagement and is further enriched by strong people-to-people connections that continue to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship.
Ambassador Chaipatiyut highlighted Thailand’s position as a favored destination for Kuwaiti travelers, particularly in the fields of healthcare and medical tourism. He noted that the confidence placed by Kuwaiti families in Thailand’s healthcare institutions reflects the high level of trust and affinity that characterizes relations between the two countries.
He revealed that approximately six percent of Kuwait’s citizens visited Thailand during 2025, drawn by the country’s diverse tourism offerings, rich cultural heritage, natural attractions, and hospitality services tailored to the needs of Muslim visitors, including extensive halal dining options and family-oriented facilities.
The ambassador added that Thailand’s tourism and hospitality sectors greatly value their Kuwaiti and Gulf visitors and remain committed to delivering high-quality experiences that meet their expectations and preferences.
Turning to the Thai community in Kuwait, Ambassador Chaiyabutr expressed appreciation for the welcoming environment provided by the State of Kuwait. He noted that approximately 1,080 Thai nationals currently reside and work in the country, contributing to various sectors and strengthening the bonds between the two societies.
He emphasized that these human connections constitute a vital pillar of bilateral relations, serving as a bridge that promotes cultural understanding, friendship, and cooperation between the peoples of Thailand and Kuwait.
The ambassador also acknowledged the important role played by the media in enhancing bilateral relations and promoting awareness of the achievements and opportunities arising from Thailand-Kuwait cooperation.
He expressed appreciation for the continued interest shown by Kuwaiti media organizations in covering developments related to Thailand and the activities of the Thai Embassy, and voiced hope for closer collaboration in the future to further strengthen public awareness and people-to-people engagement.
Ambassador Chaipatiyut noted that Thailand and Kuwait this year commemorate the 63rd anniversary of diplomatic relations, formally established on June 14, 1963. He observed that the relationship has evolved steadily through sustained dialogue, mutual respect, and regular exchanges at the highest levels.
Reflecting on notable milestones, he recalled the visit of the late Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to Bangkok in 2006 to participate in celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the accession of the late Bhumibol Adulyadej.
He described the visit as a landmark event that further strengthened the foundations of bilateral cooperation and friendship.
At the outset of his remarks, the ambassador expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, paying tribute to her distinguished contributions to diplomacy, humanitarian causes, and the advancement of women’s rights and social welfare initiatives.
He also honored the enduring legacy of Her Majesty Queen Mother Sirikit, recognizing her invaluable contributions to preserving Thailand’s cultural heritage and promoting rural and agricultural development. The ambassador invited attendees to observe a minute of silence in tribute to their memory and lasting contributions to the Kingdom of Thailand.
