Kuwait backs US-Iran MoU, calls for lasting peace, freedom of navigation

. . . voices hope for enhanced regional stability

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing hope that the agreement will strengthen regional stability, safeguard freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and promote peaceful solutions to longstanding disputes.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry said the understanding provides for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations, guarantees freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and addresses a number of outstanding issues between the two countries.

The ministry also commended the diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Qatar, and other brotherly and friendly nations whose constructive engagement helped bridge differences and create the conditions necessary for reaching the agreement.

Reaffirming Kuwait’s longstanding support for dialogue and diplomacy, the ministry stressed the importance of resolving disputes and conflicts through peaceful means and in accordance with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The statement expressed Kuwait’s hope that the understanding would serve as an important foundation for broader efforts aimed at addressing unresolved regional issues through sustainable and comprehensive solutions.

The ministry further emphasized the importance of strengthening the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect, confidence-building, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and the rejection of the use or threat of force. It also underscored the need to end support for proxy conflicts, noting that such measures are essential to reinforcing security and stability at both regional and international levels.

Kuwait reiterated the importance of ensuring the continued freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international waterway that plays a critical role in global energy supplies and international trade.

The ministry concluded by reaffirming Kuwait’s commitment to supporting all initiatives that promote peace, stability, and constructive dialogue, while advancing collective efforts to build a more secure and prosperous region.
