Dr. Faisal Al-Hajri, head of the urology unit at Al-Farwaniya Hospital, introduced the surgical robot to the department this year, highlighting its significance in performing complex surgeries, including the removal of prostate and kidney tumors.

Al-Hajri, in a statement to Al-Jarida newspaper, explained that one of the advantages of the surgical robot is its high precision and three-dimensional vision, which provides the surgeon with a better view of target organs and tissues. He also highlighted the faster recovery time and shorter hospital stay for patients after surgery.

He mentioned that the urology unit at Al-FarwaniyaHospital is working on establishing specialized units to ensure patients receive the best possible medical care.

Additionally, he noted that the Ministry of Health is planning to introduce surgical robots in several hospitals and establish specialized units under the umbrella of the urology department.

Prostate cancer rare in Kuwait, with just 1-3 cases per 100,000 men

Al-Hajri also addressed the causes of prostate cancer, stating that while they remain uncertain, certain factors can increase the likelihood of developing the disease, such as aging (especially after fifty) and a family history of prostate cancer.

He pointed out that the incidence of the disease in Kuwait is relatively low, ranging from one to three cases per 100,000 men. He stressed the importance of men over fifty undergoing regular prostate exams, noting that it is normal for the prostate to enlarge due to benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Early detection of prostate cancer can save lives

He emphasized that early detection of prostate cancer can save lives and that studies confirm elderly men face a higher risk of this type of cancer, underscoring the importance of early screening for detection and treatment before the disease progresses.

Al-Hajri also explained that treatment for prostate enlargement can include medication or surgical intervention to reduce its size, with modern surgical techniques such as endoscopic prostate curettage or laser technology for evaporation being the most effective.
