Shrimp season kicks off — local markets to see surge in fresh catch
. . . Environmentally friendly nets mandated for shrimp season; territorial fishing set for September

The Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources announced the start of the shrimp fishing season today, Friday, for vessels operating in Kuwait’s economic zone.
In a statement published on its X platform, the Authority confirmed that Director-General Eng. Salem Al-Hai has given the green signal for shrimp fishing, nonetheless, the fishing vessels must obtain the necessary permits beforehand.
The announcement also clarified that shrimp fishing in Kuwait’s territorial waters — specifically for vessels licensed to fish by trawling — will begin on September 1, 2025. These vessels must use environmentally friendly Kufa nets, as part of the Authority’s sustainable fishing policy.
The directive aims to support the replenishment of marine life and ensure a stable supply of shrimp in the local market following the seasonal fishing ban.
The Authority called on all fishermen and vessel operators to fully comply with regulations to help preserve Kuwait’s marine ecosystem and safeguard fish stocks.
