Seven years jail, deportation for two Gulf citizens in citizenship forgery case
- Two Gulf nationals have been sentenced to seven years in prison with hard labor and deportation after being convicted in a case involving forged Kuwaiti citizenship documents, with the court also ordering the recovery of more than 100,000 dinars from each convict allegedly obtained illegally from government institutions.
The Criminal Court, presided over by Counselor Al-Dhuwaihi Mubarak Al-Dhuwaihi and comprising Judges Hamad Al-Hajri and Faisal Al-Khudair, has sentenced both men to seven years imprisonment with hard labor . When the verdict was issued, one of the men was present in the court, while the other was senrtenced in absentia.
The first accused was ordered to pay a fine of 185,107 dinars and will be deported from Kuwait after serving the sentence. The second accused was dismissed from his job and ordered to return 103,318.389 dinars to four public institutions, the Kuwait Municipality, the Public Institution for Social Security, the Public Authority for Manpower and the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, with each institution receiving the amount attributed to it, according to the details set out in the court verdict.
The court further imposed a 206,636 dinar fine on the second accused, equivalent of twice the total amount taken from the public entities. Deportation will follow the completion of the prison sentence. The court also ordered the confiscation of the forged documents seized during the investigation, bringing the case to a conclusion with both imprisonment and significant financial penalties.
The ruling highlights the serious legal and financial consequences imposed in cases involving the alleged falsification of Kuwaiti citizenship documents, particularly where the offence is connected to obtaining benefits or funds from public institutions. The judgment also sought to recover funds obtained through the offences, while imposing additional penalties and confiscating the documents used in the case.
