Seat belt violations, vehicle owners to face fines for passenger non-compliance

A security source confirmed to Al-Anba that the law of the General Traffic Department stipulates a fine for those sitting in the front seats of the vehicle if they do not fasten their seat belt.
Moreover, the source explained that traffic surveillance cameras detect violations, including seat belts and using mobile phones while driving, as indirect violations and are recorded against the car owner. In the case of a direct violation, it is recorded in the name of the person not wearing a seat belt.
Importantly, a security source stated that mobile taxi drivers must ensure customers fasten their seat belts. If a customer refuses to comply, the driver is obligated to either refuse to continue the trip or contact the Interior Ministry’s operations department if the customer insists. The source emphasized that the law is clear, and if a taxi driver is found violating this regulation, an indirect fine will be issued.
The source clarified that the General Traffic Department started issuing fines last Thursday for individuals who fail to comply with the seat belt law for those sitting in the front seats.
The Ministry of Interior previously confirmed the installation of special cameras equipped with artificial intelligence to monitor seat belt and mobile phone violations.
Approximately 252 cameras have been placed on public roads, along with Point-to-Point cameras that calculate the distance and speed between monitoring points.
