Over 54,000 traffic violations recorded in a week

Less than three weeks before the new traffic law comes into effect on April 22, the General Traffic Department between March 29 and April 4, has issued 54,894 traffic citations, arrested 87 juveniles, and recorded 1,387 traffic accidents.
The statistics reflect the outcomes of intensive traffic campaigns conducted under the field supervision of Major General Yousef Al-Khadda, Assistant Undersecretary for Operations and Brigadier General Jamal Al-Foudari.
In addition to traffic violations, officers have also taken into custody 42 individuals for residency-related offenses and outstanding warrants —12 were residency violators, 21 were wanted by law and 6 were reported absconding by their sponsors.
A total of 56 people were detained for committing serious traffic offences and impounded 26 vehicles and 16 motorcycles.
This is in addition to 9 drivers who were caught driving under the influence of alcohol and one individual was arrested for drug possession.
At the regional level, the Hawalli Traffic Department accounted for 17,901 violations, followed by the Highway Patrol with 7,383, Mubarak Al-Kabeer with 6,624 and Farwaniya with 6,534 violations.
