Omani Cultural Week opens with book exhibit and concert in Kuwait

The event at the Kuwait National Library adds another building block to the distinguished bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

On Tuesday evening, the Omani Cultural Week in Kuwait kicked off with the opening of a book exhibition and a concert featuring Omani cellist Maryam Al-Manjia and musician Yacoub Al-Assmi, according to Q8-Press.

Musaed Al-Zamil, Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Literature, and Assistant of the Arts Sector, said in his speech during the opening ceremony at the Kuwait National Library, Talking about the Sultanate of Oman is a reflection on Kuwait and its history, literature, and culture, as well as a dialogue with its own history and culture.

Al-Zamil referred to the official cultural agreement between the State of Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman, signed in February 1974 and automatically renewed every five years.

He added, Sincere love and exemplary manners have deeply rooted themselves in the Kuwaiti-Omani consciousness. This genuine friendliness has become a hallmark of personalities who speak for themselves and their memories, reinforcing the brotherly relations between the two peoples.

Al-Zamil also noted that Omani culture and literature are present in local, Gulf, Arab, and international forums, walking with authentic Omani Arab steps. Our guide is these artistic, literary, and intellectual nights, as showcased by the Amman Cultural Week,” he added.

Ambassador Al-Kharousi stressed that these relations have ancient roots extending over centuries of civilizational communication through the Arabian Gulf. Historically, the Gulf’s waters facilitated the movement of Omani and Kuwaiti ships between its ports and beyond, to various seas and bays around the world. Caravans also transported goods and the torch of knowledge and civilization across the sands, plains, and deserts of the Arabian Peninsula.

He added that the Omani Cultural Week, which was launched today, features a range of activities organized by the Omani Embassy in coordination with the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Literature in Kuwait.

The Omani ambassador highlighted the schedule of events for the week, which began today and will continue until next Thursday. He noted that today’s schedule includes the opening of a book exhibition featuring publications from the National Council, the Omani Association for Writers, and the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman. Additionally, a musical evening will be presented by musicians Maryam Al-Manjia and YacoubAl-Assi.

He said that the program for the second day, Wednesday, includes a think tank on early Kuwaiti-Omani relations. This session will feature two specialized lecturers, Dr. Mohsen Al-Kindi and writer Alaa Al-Mansour, who will discuss key historical and cultural milestones. Additionally, the second day will feature a poetry evening with Omani poets Badria Al-Badri and Youssef Al-Kamali, as well as Kuwaiti poet Faisal Al-Enezi.

He said that on Thursday, the final day of the week’s activities, a lecture will be given by Omani researcher Dr. Said Alsaqlawi on the art of architecture, focusing on fortified architecture.
