The Public Health Sector of Ministry of Health has equipped the Kuwait International Airport with 20 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across terminals T1, T4, and T5, as well as at the Airport Health Center to improve emergency preparedness in high-traffic areas, according to ministry spokesperson Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad.
In a press statement, Dr. Al-Sanad explained that the deployment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s emergency response capabilities and promote public safety, particularly in cases of sudden cardiac arrest, according to KUNA.
Dr. Al-Sanad expressed gratitude to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for its collaboration in implementing the infrastructure and supporting the initiative.
The spokesperson highlighted that international research indicates AED use within the first few minutes of a cardiac event can raise survival rates by up to 70 percent, emphasizing the critical importance of rapid access and action.
He noted that this initiative aligns with the Ministry’s broader vision of prevention and public health protection. It also supports the national “Human First” strategy by enabling timely intervention in emergency situations and empowering frontline personnel at key public locations.
AEDs are portable devices that allow trained users — including non-medical personnel — to deliver lifesaving defibrillation using step-by-step audio and visual prompts. To maximize the effectiveness of this new equipment, the ministry has also launched a training program for airport staff to ensure fast and effective use during emergencies.
