Indian PM Narendra Modi has called for a renewed push to strengthen India’s global engagement, emphasising trade, technology, and strategic partnerships while addressing envoys at the 11th Heads of Missions Conference in New Delhi.
The three-day conference, held from April 28 to 30 in the Indian capital, brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, and senior diplomatic officials to deliberate on India’s foreign policy priorities in an increasingly complex global environment.
Addressing the gathering on the final day, Modi highlighted the importance of advancing economic and strategic ties, noting that discussions focused on boosting cooperation through trade, technology, and partnerships, while also strengthening engagement with the Indian diaspora worldwide.
The conference was organised under the theme “Reforming Indian Diplomacy for 2047,” reflecting New Delhi’s long-term vision of positioning India as a leading global power by the centenary of its independence.
Participants engaged in extensive deliberations on geopolitical developments, emerging technologies, and the so-called “3Ts” trade, technology, and tourism seen as key pillars of India’s diplomatic and economic outreach.
Officials said the discussions also focused on developing a “future-ready” diplomatic framework, with presentations made to the Prime Minister on promoting the “Bharat story” globally and enhancing India’s international presence across multiple sectors.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered the inaugural address, underscoring the expanding scope of India’s global engagement and the need for agile diplomacy amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
The conference featured brainstorming sessions, strategic exercises, and thematic discussions, allowing diplomats to exchange insights and align priorities on key international issues, including economic cooperation, technological advancement, and regional security challenges.
Officials noted that the platform plays a critical role in synchronising India’s diplomatic missions worldwide, ensuring coherence in policy execution and strengthening the country’s ability to respond to emerging global challenges.
The latest edition of the conference comes at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, with evolving global conflicts, economic shifts, and technological competition shaping the contours of international relations.
Reaffirming India’s diplomatic direction, Modi stressed the need for innovation, adaptability, and deeper international collaboration, positioning the country’s foreign policy to support long-term growth and global influence in the years ahead.
