Ministry of Communications to discontinue copper network services on July 31
Residents in affected areas urged to switch to fiber optic network before month's end
• The Ministry of Communications will discontinue copper network telephone services in Salmiya, Ras Al-Salmiya,Salwa, Rumaithiya, Al-Bidaa, Fintas Agricultural, and Kuwait City on July 31, 2024.
• Residents in these areas are urged to switch to the fiber optic network by contacting their local exchange and requesting an ONT (Optical Network Terminal) device before the end of the month.
The Ministry of Communications has revealed in a statement, starting July 31, 2024, copper network telephone services will be discontinued in several areas of Kuwait.
Affected areas include Salmiya, Ras Al-Salmiya, Salwa, Rumaithiya, Al-Bidaa, Fintas Agricultural, and Kuwait City, reports Q8-Press.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Hussaini, the Ministry’s official spokesman, explained that this transition to fiber optic technology will offer residents significantly more reliable connections.
In order to ensure a smooth transition, the Ministry is urging residents in the affected areas to switch to the fiber optic network as soon as possible. To facilitate this process, residents can contact their local personnel to request an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) device.
The Ministry has implemented a free installation period for ONTs, which will end at the end of July.
