Kuwait’s water consumption hits 173.3 million gallons in 2023

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy reported an annual increase of 2.7% in water consumption, reflecting growing demand due to population growth and ongoing urban development.

The per capita annual water consumption in Kuwait was 35.653 gallons, with daily consumption averaging 97 gallons. The rise in the consumption is due to factors such as population increases, industrial expansion, and urban growth, which require greater water resources.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy reported that total water consumption last year reached 173.258 million gallons.

According to its statistical yearbook, per capita annual water consumption was 35.653 gallons, with daily consumption averaging 97 gallons, as reported by Al Jarida newspaper.

The ministry reported an annual increase of 2.7% in water consumption, reflecting growing demand due to population growth and ongoing urban development.

The ministry sources attributed this rise to factors such as population increases, industrial expansion, and urban growth, which require greater water resources. Additionally, climate changes and rising summer temperatures have contributed to higher daily water usage. The ministry emphasized the importance of rationalizing water consumption and raising public awareness among citizens and residents to preserve these vital resources.

The ministry highlighted its commitment to initiatives aimed at improving water efficiency, including projects to enhance water distribution networks and modernize monitoring technologies to ensure resource sustainability.

Separately, the Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Ahmed Al-Nama, issued a decision outlining a new mechanism for employee attendance verification. The official working hours begin from 7:00 to 8:00 am, with the first hour being flexible. Employees must verify attendance within two hours after the initial fingerprint. For those arriving between 8:00 and 8:30 am, the secondary verification window is from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with a 30-minute grace period not counted as working hours.

The decision exempts employees with disabilities or caregiving responsibilities from attendance verification and specifies attendance times for those with reduced working hours.

Employees with a two-hour relief period at the start of work must verify attendance between 11:00 am and 12:00 noon, while those with one-hour relief must do so between 10:00 and 11:00 am. Employees with two hours of relief at the end of work must verify attendance from 9:00 to 10:00 am.

The ministry noted that some employees were unaware of the new system. Errors in attendance verification after 11:00 am should be reported to administrative affairs with the employee’s name, civil number, and the date of the incorrect entry for correction.
