Kuwaiti surgical innovation boosts ovarian cancer recovery, gains recognition

Kuwait Health Ministry announced, Sunday, a medical breakthrough by specialist in gynecologic and urology surgeon at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, Dr. Noura Al-Ibrahim, who developed a safer surgical technique for treating advanced ovarian cancer.

A ministry statement said the innovation received a scientific recognition after being published in Gynecologic Oncology Reports; the journal of The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) in Chicago, Illinois of the United States.

Dr. Al-Ibrahim noted that ovarian cancer is among the most challenging cancers to treat, often diagnosed in late stages, with surgery being the main part of treatment.

The innovative technique offers a safer approach for managing advanced cases, mainly when the cancer spreads to the intestines, she added.

Getting published in an international medical journal makes this technique accessible to oncology surgeons worldwide, contributing to the advancement in ovarian cancer treatment and offering patients better outcomes, noted Dr. Al-Ibrahim.
