Kuwaiti official referred to Nazaha over suspected donation misuse

An unidentified director of a government institution has been referred to the Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) amid suspicions of issuing legal opinions that contradict regulations related to the handling of donations.
The minister overseeing the agency has also suspended the director from his duties for three months pending investigations, according to Al-Rai daily.
Reliable sources said, the referral stems from suspected financial violations, including the unauthorized transfer of donation funds directly into the personal accounts of players and technical staff of a local team — without prior approval from the minister.
The suspension order was issued after a fact-finding committee formed to investigate the case found — based on the documents and financial data — that these transfers were made on a legal opinion issued by the director.
Sources added that the referral to Nazaha is part of efforts to uphold transparency and ensure proper governance. The commission will now examine the legality of the director’s actions, especially as the exact amount of transferred funds remains unclear due to restrictions related to banking secrecy.
