Kuwaiti Ministerial Committee discusses measures to improve living standards
The Kuwaiti Ministerial Committee for Economic Affairs convened on Wednesday under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Sabah to discuss measures to improve the living standards of citizens.
The meeting, which was attended by several ministers and officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Public Institution for Social Security, the Civil Service Bureau, and the Public Authority for Manpower, focused on some key areas.
The committee discussed the issue of financial increases and the requirements for improving the living conditions of citizens. The meeting also tackled the issue of the labor market and the increasing employment in the government sector, which places a high financial burden on the budget.
The Prime Minister requested from the officials of the Public Authority for Manpower to provide the committee with a set of statistics that include the number of expatriate workers in the private and domestic labor markets, as well as the number of citizens working in the private sector. This data will be used to make decisions regarding the population structure and to approve the benefits that encourage citizens to work in the private sector, which will reduce the pressure on the government sector and, consequently, the state’s general finances.
The sources emphasized that the political leadership is paying great attention to the issue of attracting citizens to work in the private sector to increase their numbers in this vital and important sector. This will be done in parallel with issuing decisions that provide them with job security and stability, and making this sector more attractive to them.
The economic committee also discussed the increase in the cost of living and the child allowance, and took into account the views and opinions of all the participating parties.
The meeting with the economic entities was held to obtain their proposals in order to reach the best possible solutions before approving them and expressing an opinion on them. The sources pointed out that these proposals will be studied technically in detail to improve the living standards of citizens.
