Kuwait, US collaborate to prevent nuclear smuggling at customs
The two sides discussed enhancing the security system for detecting radioactive materials and developing solutions to ensure national safety without disrupting the flow of goods and vehicles at ports.
LThe Director General of the General Directorate of Customs welcomed Mutlaq Al-Enzi, Director of the Sustainability Program at the US Department of Energy, Richard Papass, and their team, along with Salah Elias, Director of the Customs Project Department, to discuss key challenges and obstacles faced by customs administrations in detecting and preventing nuclear smuggling, according to Al Rai newspaper.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance the security system for detecting and handling radioactive materials, as well as developing the best plans and solutions to ensure national safety from any dangers posed by such smuggling, without disrupting the flow of goods and vehicles at land, sea, and air ports.
Al-Enzi praised the strong relations between Kuwait and the United States, highlighting the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in this field.
He emphasized the ongoing coordination and exchange of expertise and information to enhance the security of both the state and the region, protecting them from risks associated with this type of smuggling, in line with their commitment to international conventions and agreements.
