Amid global challenges such as climate change and ongoing crises in commodity-producing countries, and as part of Kuwait’s food security strategy, a specialized delegation from the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development and Joint Cooperation, based in Jordan, visited Kuwait last week. The delegation aimed to offer technical expertise to boost milk production and support the country’s efforts toward self-sufficiency.

The head of the organization’s regional office in Kuwait, Darar Al-Mustafa, told Al-Rai newspaper that Kuwait produces about 81,000 tons of milk annually, of which 76,000 tons are supplied to factories, achieving a self-sufficiency rate of 19 percent, according to the Public Authority of Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources’2023 statistics.

Al-Mustafa highlighted that the technical expertise provided by the organization will help dairy producers enhance production, meet the authority’s needs, and support breeders. He added that the program includes training courses and guidance seminars to support staff and educators in the sector.

He noted that courses will be held from the 8th to the 12th, titled Foundations of Selection, Breeding, and Evaluation in Dairy Cows, with 55 trainees from Kuwaiti staff and breeders participating.

The program will also continue to offer guidance seminars for workers in the Animal Production Department at the Public Authority of Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources and conduct field visits to the Fresh Dairy Producers Union in Sulaibiya to provide technical and advisory support.

He explained that these efforts align with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development’s commitment to achieving food production self-sufficiency and sustainability, within the framework of Arab integration and cooperation, and reflect Kuwait’s ongoing support for joint Arab initiatives across all sectors.
