Kuwait urges united front against terrorism, hate speech and extremism

Kuwait stressed Wednesday before the United Nations the need to combat terrorism, extremism, hate speech and Islamophobia, while dismantling terrorist financing networks and reaffirming that terrorism cannot be linked to any religion, nationality or culture.

Delivering Kuwait’s address before the UN General Assembly’s Sixth (Legal) Committee during discussions on “Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism,” Diplomatic Attaché Mohammad Al-Mutairi reaffirmed Kuwait’s firm position against terrorism in all its forms, in accordance with international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions under Chapter VII.

Al-Mutairi highlighted Kuwait’s legislative and institutional progress, citing the implementation of Decree-Law No. 47 of 2026 on counter-terrorism offenses and Decree-Law No. 76 of 2025 amending provisions of Law No. 106 of 2013 on combating money laundering and terrorist financing. He said the measures establish an integrated national framework to protect society.

On international cooperation, Al-Mutairi pointed to joint capacity-building initiatives with the GCC Secretariat and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), as well as Kuwait’s support for UN General Assembly Resolution 80/286 on the ninth review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

He also highlighted Kuwait’s active role in the Core Group that drafted Resolution 78/264 on combating anti-Muslim hatred. Al-Mutairi condemned recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia as blatant violations of international law and called for concerted international action to deter terrorist groups and uphold international peace and security.
