Kuwait to host 28th GCC Ministerial Meeting from May 10-15

Director of Public Relations Department and spokesperson for Kuwait Municipality Mohammed Al-Sindan, announced all preparations to host the 28th Ministerial Meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries Ministers of Municipal Affairs have been finalized.

The meeting is set to be held in Kuwait from May 10 to 15, He disclosed the Higher Committee for this event is chaired by the Municipality’s Director General, Engineer Manal Al-Asfour, according to Al-Qabas daily.

In a press statement, Al-Sindan outlined the meeting’s agenda, which includes several key topics such as the urban environment, the Gulf building code, the development of legislation and municipal oversight mechanisms, contractor classification criteria, the joint Gulf municipal work plan for 2024-2030, strategic urban planning, the GCC Municipalities Award (6th session), and conferences, workshops, and training programs aimed at enhancing municipal work.

Additionally, the meeting will focus on highlighting Gulf municipal work in regional and international forums, exchanging experiences and expertise, and signing agreements with organizations that support the municipal field.

Al-Sindan also noted that two important guides will be presented at the meeting: the “Integrated Waste Management System Guide Towards a Circular Economy in the GCC Countries,” prepared by Kuwait, and the “GCC Urban Afforestation Guide,” both of which aim to guide ministers in making informed decisions.

The event will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel, starting with a session of the Coordination and Follow-up Committee for Municipal Affairs, where the participants will discuss the agenda and draft resolutions proposed by the General Secretariat.

This will be followed by a meeting of senior officials from the municipal sector in the GCC countries to review and approve the topics to be presented to the ministers.

The official program will culminate with a ministerial meeting on Thursday, May 15, during which municipal affairs ministers from the GCC states will discuss and approve the agenda and resolutions, furthering efforts to strengthen cooperation and integration in Gulf municipal work.
