Kuwait Social Association hosts addiction recovery conference

The event examined the issue from legal and social perspectives, aiming to foster a holistic approach to addiction recovery in Kuwait.

Dr. Ameera Al Hassan, Head of the UN-Habitat Mission, emphasized that inclusive urban planning plays a key role in supporting addiction recovery by creating environments that foster stability, well-being, and reintegration into society.

Kuwait Social Association held a conference titled “Recovering from Addiction… and Building a New Life” on Wednesday at its headquarters in Adailiya, focusing on strategies for recovery and societal reintegration.

Mr. Abdullah Alradhwan, Chief of the Board at the Kuwait Social Association, opened the event with a welcome speech, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in addressing addiction.

Brigadier Osama Almajed, Deputy Director General of Correctional Institutions, highlighting the role of correctional facilities in rehabilitation.

Dr. Ameera AlHassan, Head of the UN-Habitat Mission, underscored the significance of cities and urban planning in supporting recovery. She noted that inclusive urban environments can aid individuals in sustaining their recovery and becoming active, productive members of society.

The conference also examined the issue from legal and social perspectives, aiming to foster a holistic approach to addiction recovery in Kuwait. The conference panalists underscored that Kuwaiti law classifies addiction as an illness rather than a criminal offense, calling on families, communities, and authorities to provide support for individuals struggling with substance abuse in their path to recovery.
