Kuwait currently has a contract with Qatar to import between one and three million tons of gas annually.
According to oil industry sources, Kuwait is expected to sign a major strategic contract next week, securing a 15-year agreement to import natural gas from Qatar, reports Al-Anbaa newspaper.
The sources said that the long-term sale and purchase agreement to be signed by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation will start in 2025, with shipments of liquefied natural gas beginning to arrive at the receiving station in the liquefied natural gas complex at Al-Zour Port.
They noted that the new contract is strategic and has favorable commercial terms. It also ensures the smooth continuity of gas supplies to Kuwait at any time, covering the increasing needs of power stations, especially during the summer.
The sources added that there is an existing contract with Qatar to import between one and three million tons of gas annually.
