Kuwait resumes housing distribution to women on weekly basis

The head of the Women’s Housing Affairs Committee at the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, Sheikha Bibi Al-Yousef, announced the resumption of public housing distribution to Kuwaiti female citizens after a temporary suspension due to recent regional conflicts.

In a televised statement, Al-Yousef said the halt in allocations was linked to wartime circumstances, but emphasized that the process has now restarted as part of the Authority’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities.

She noted that the decision followed a proposal she raised two weeks ago, questioning the justification for continued delays affecting women awaiting housing, reports Al-Rai daily.

“What is the woman’s fault in waiting?” she said, adding that the resumption sends a clear message that Kuwait continues to move forward despite challenges. “Even in the most difficult circumstances, work does not stop.”

Al-Yousef explained that the committee approved a revised distribution mechanism, with housing units now being allocated on a weekly basis every Wednesday. Around 20 women are being invited each week to receive their homes, with the number increased to 30 in the current phase.

She clarified that the traditional lottery system, typically involving between 200 and 300 beneficiaries, had been scheduled to resume after the holiday period.

However, precautionary measures led authorities to adopt a scaled-down approach to ensure continuity while maintaining safety.

Highlighting the availability of housing units, Al-Yousef urged beneficiaries to attend when called and not miss the opportunity to secure their entitlements, stressing that the delays were beyond their control.

She concluded by underlining that the move reflects Kuwait’s stability and resilience, noting that the country has weathered more difficult periods in the past.

“Kuwaitis do not spread negativity,” she said, “but continue to promote optimism and confidence in the nation’s future.”
