Kuwait prioritizes maternal, child health to ensure long-term wellness

Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad said the Ministry of Health remains committed to safeguarding the health of mothers and children, recognizing that the earliest moments of life form the foundation for a healthy individual and society.

Under the slogan A Healthy Start for a Promising Future, Kuwait celebrated World Health Day as the WHO launched a year-long campaign to promote quality care for mothers, newborns, and children.

Approximately 300,000 women die each year due to pregnancy or childbirth, more than two million newborns die within their first month, and about two million others are stillborn.

 

Under the slogan “A Healthy Start for a Promising Future,” Kuwait joined the global celebration of World Health Day on Monday, as the World Health Organization (WHO) launched a year-long campaign to promote quality care for mothers, newborns, and children, reported Arabic daily Al Jarida.

A recent study by the organization estimates that approximately 300,000 women die each year due to pregnancy or childbirth, more than two million newborns die within their first month, and about two million others are stillborn.

Regarding the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health’s efforts to promote maternal and child health, the ministry’s official spokesperson, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, told KUNA that the ministry remains committed to safeguarding maternal and child health, recognizing that the earliest moments of life form the foundation for a healthy individual and society.

Al-Sanad explained that this national approach aligns with Kuwait Vision 2035, which prioritizes high-quality healthcare as a core pillar, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly Goal 3 on health and well-being.

For her part, Dr. Amal Khader, Chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Departments at the Ministry of Health, reaffirmed her commitment to providing world-class healthcare services to ensure a healthier future for women in Kuwait.

Khader highlighted the significant advancements made in obstetrics and gynecology, reflecting the state’s commitment—through the Ministry of Health—to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure, expanding medical expertise, and adopting the latest technologies to deliver the highest standards of care for women at every stage of life.
