Power grid strained by high demand, prompting second power cuts this month

For the second time this month, scheduled power cuts were implemented in certain agricultural and industrial areas to alleviate pressure on the national grid. This action was taken in response to high demand and insufficient production due to several electrical units undergoing maintenance.

Although the Ministry of Electricity and Water had previously warned of potential power cuts in residential areas, including parts of Hawally, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, and Sabah Al-Ahmad, it ultimately limited the outages to agricultural and industrial zones in Wafra, Abdali, Rawdatain, Mina Abdullah, Subhan, Al-Rai, and Shuwaikh Industrial. The cuts lasted for three hours, according to Al-Anba daily.

The cuts were primarily due to a mismatch between consumption and production, as several units are still undergoing maintenance and delays in their return to service have resulted in a shortfall in grid capacity.

Sources emphasized that all power stations are being closely monitored to expedite repairs and bring units back online to meet rising demand, especially with increasing temperatures.
