Kuwait launches unmanned smart boats to boost maritime security

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef on Monday inaugurated the operation of unmanned smart marine boats, marking a significant advancement in Kuwait’s maritime security capabilities.

The new fleet, deployed by the Directorate General of Coast Guard, forms part of a broader strategy to leverage smart technologies in safeguarding the nation’s territorial waters, reports Al-Rai daily.

During the launch, Brigadier-General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, Director-General of the Coast Guard, provided a comprehensive briefing on the operational efficiency of the unmanned vessels.

Capable of functioning for several days without direct human control, the smart boats are equipped to conduct continuous reconnaissance and surveillance, intercept suspicious maritime targets, support search and rescue operations, monitor environmental pollution, and protect marine resources.

Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef also inspected the advanced marine operations room and the command center responsible for operating the unmanned boats.

He was briefed on the integrated smart marine monitoring system, which combines coastal radars, sensors, high-resolution cameras, and AI-powered unmanned boats into a single command and control network.

The system can achieve complete surveillance coverage of Kuwait’s maritime domain, significantly enhancing field readiness and response capabilities. It also includes real-time electronic communication links between naval units and command centers, enabling swift decision-making and coordinated action.

Minister Al-Yousef praised the Coast Guard’s efforts, emphasizing that the deployment of unmanned marine vessels is a qualitative leap in maritime defense and an embodiment of the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies.

He highlighted that such initiatives are essential to preserving national interests, maintaining security and stability, and protecting Kuwait’s coastal and maritime assets.

The launch ceremony was attended by senior security officials, including Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Major General Ali Al-Adwani, and Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Affairs, Major General Mujbil bin Shawq.
