Kuwait intensifies energy-saving efforts to contain power crisis

Amid mounting efforts to curb the electricity crisis and prevent planned power outages, several Kuwaiti ministries and institutions have rolled out wide-ranging consumption rationalization plans.
Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi directed all health sector departments to adopt comprehensive strategies for reducing electricity, energy, and water usage, emphasizing that conservation is now a “national and moral duty.” His directive follows similar orders from the National Guard Chief and the Minister of Defense.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs also instructed mosques to implement strict energy-saving measures, including closing women’s prayer areas, limiting use of air conditioning to 25°C, and conducting some prayers in outer sanctuaries. Additionally, scheduled power cuts were announced for mosques during non-prayer hours.
These measures reflect the state’s unified approach in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity, aiming to preserve resources and reinforce national responsibility.
