Kuwait holds coordination meeting before presenting human rights report to UN

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a coordination meeting on Tuesday to prepare the country’s combined periodic reports for submission to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The meeting, organized by the ministry’s Human Rights Department, was attended by representatives from relevant government authorities involved in preparing Kuwait’s official delegation for the upcoming UN review.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah said Kuwait has maintained a policy of cooperation with UN human rights bodies since ratifying the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in 1968.

She said Kuwait remains committed to fulfilling its international obligations through dialogue and cooperation with UN treaty committees, noting that the country’s current membership in the UN Human Rights Council for the 2024-2026 term reflects this commitment.

The meeting is part of ongoing preparations led by the National Standing Committee for the Preparation of Reports and Follow-up on Human Rights Recommendations, chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kuwait’s official delegation is scheduled to present and discuss the reports before the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on August 10 and 11 at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.

The preparations aim to enhance the delegation’s technical and diplomatic readiness and ensure effective engagement with UN experts.

The discussions will highlight Kuwait’s legislative and institutional developments, as well as national efforts linked to the Kuwait Vision 2035 development plan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
