The Public Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has filed a second formal protest to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), condemning what it described as repeated Iranian violations of Kuwaiti airspace and attacks on critical aviation infrastructure, including the Kuwait International Airport.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Authority said the latest diplomatic note highlights serious breaches of international civil aviation conventions, stressing that the incidents constitute a direct threat to passenger safety, airline operations, and airport personnel, in addition to vital facilities.
PACA noted that the most recent attack on the passenger terminal “T1” last Wednesday resulted in fatalities and multiple injuries, alongside extensive material damage.
The strike also disrupted air traffic, forcing the suspension of flights and temporarily halting operations at Kuwait International Airport.
The Authority further pointed out that the severity of the incident is heightened by the fact that it occurred just 48 hours after the reopening of the same terminal and the resumption of international and regional flights, following earlier repair and rehabilitation work after a previous attack.
It said Kuwait had made sustained efforts to restore normal operations at the airport and ensure safe air traffic continuity, making the renewed targeting of the facility particularly concerning from an aviation safety perspective.
In its communication, PACA called on ICAO to take urgent and decisive measures to safeguard civil aviation, protect sovereign airspace, and prevent the recurrence of similar violations, while ensuring accountability in line with international law and global aviation safety standards.
The Authority affirmed that Kuwait reserves all its rights under international law to take appropriate measures to protect its sovereignty, airspace, and civil aviation infrastructure, and to guarantee the safety of passengers, employees, and airport facilities.
