Kuwait extends bidding deadline for $10 billion Dorra gas project

• Contractors are currently preparing bids for four engineering, procurement, and construction packages—three offshore and one onshore—comprising the Dorra gas field development project.

Deadline for contractors to bid on the contract to supply and install a 400-kilovolt overhead transmission line linking a substation in Shagaya to a substation in Sabiya has been extended from March 25 to April 15.

MEED reported that Khafji Joint Operations (KJO) has extended the bidding deadline for an offshore engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package in the Dorra gas field development project, Al Rai newspaper reported.

The magazine recently reported that Khafji Joint Operations is advancing a major gas production project in the Dorra offshore field, located in the Arabian Gulf within the neutral zone shared by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

It added that contractors are currently preparing bids for four engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) packages—three offshore and one onshore—comprising the Dorra gas field development project, which is estimated to be worth approximately $10 billion.

MEED quoted informed sources stating that contractors bidding for the first offshore package now have until April 8 to submit their bids, extending the previous deadline of March 24.

According to sources, the scope of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works for the Dorra gas field development project and their respective submission deadlines are as follows:

  • Package 1: Seven marine covers and in-field line extensions – April 8.
  • Package 2A: Seven production modules (PDMs) and corrosion-resistant alloy-lined pipes connected to the gas compression plant – June 30.
  • Package 2B: Compression and auxiliary platforms, accommodation platform, main pipelines, and associated cables connected to the shore – June 30.Package 3: Onshore gas processing unit – June 30.

According to the magazine, the list of bidders for the offshore production packages includes Lamprell (Saudi Arabia/UAE), Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon Energy (India), McDermott (USA), NMDC Energy (UAE), and Saipem (Italy).

Sources told MEED that contractors bidding for the offshore packages have the option to submit a joint bid for Packages 2A and 2B.

The Dorra field is estimated to contain 20 trillion cubic meters of gas and approximately 310 million barrels of oil.

Bidding deadline for Shagaya-Sabiya power transmission line extended

Meanwhile, MEED reported that the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, through the Central Agency for Public Tenders, has extended the deadline for contractors to bid on the contract to supply and install a 400-kilovolt overhead transmission line linking a substation in Shagaya to a substation in Sabiya from March 25 to April 15.

The deadline for bid submissions has been extended multiple times since the tender was issued in October last year. The planned overhead transmission line will connect the Shagaya solar power converter station to the Sabiya power station, also known as SWPS-2. The bid bond for the contract has been set at KWD 450,000 ($1.46 million).

Sabiya is home to an existing power complex in Kuwait. In January, the Ministry of Water, Electricity, and Renewable Energy announced the completion of an upgrade of four GE Vernova 9F.03 gas turbines at the 2 GW Subiya combined-cycle power plant.

Kuwait plans to expand its renewable energy capacity through a multi-phase solar energy program in Shagaya.
