Kuwait Customs foils bid to smuggle 10 kg of marijuana into the country

Customs officers at Kuwait’s Air Cargo Customs Department have thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 10 kilograms of marijuana concealed inside an air cargo shipment arriving from Thailand.
According to the General Administration of Customs, the shipment documents showed the contents of the package as table and lighting fixtures.
The alert customs inspectors during routine screening found something unusual and subjected the cargo to thorough examination and succeeded in uncovering the narcotics hidden inside a box containing cartons of lighting fixtures.
Officials said the marijuana had been professionally concealed beneath the cartons in an apparent attempt to evade customs detection.
Following the discovery, customs authorities coordinated with the Directorate-General for Drug and Alcohol Control to identify and apprehend the recipient, believed to be Indian who was seized while taking delivery of the shipment.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect, while investigations are continuing to determine whether the shipment is linked to a wider drug trafficking network.
