KOC explores renewable energy and green hydrogen transition

KOC's endeavours demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and its alignment with KPC's broader carbon neutrality goals.

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has signed an agreement with KBR Consulting to conduct a feasibility study on transitioning to renewable energy and green hydrogen.

This initiative aligns with the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s (KPC) strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, as announced by KPC CEO Sheikh Nawaf Al-Saud.

A coordination meeting was held between KOC and KBR officials to outline the project’s roadmap. The KOC team included Hamad Al-Zaabi, Group Manager of Innovation and Technology; Mohammed Al-Aqab, Head of Research and Technology Team; Nasser Boutaleb, Head of Project Management Consultant Contracts Team; Nahed Al-Hajri, Head of Project Management Team (35); and Dr. Hussein Arab, Chief Consultant.

Kuwait is actively pursuing environmental projects, particularly in light of KPC and its subsidiaries launching their strategic plan in this area and their commitment to achieving carbon neutrality in the oil and gas sector.

KOC’s multifaceted strategy

KOC is implementing a multi-pronged strategy encompassing exploration, production, energy transition, and all types of drilling, both onshore and offshore, in an integrated and systematic manner that can be developed at each stage. This strategy serves and achieves the overall strategy of KPC and its subsidiaries, under full coordination and understanding between the executive leadership of KPC and its subsidiaries, enabling the achievement of Kuwait’s oil strategy.
