Fifa World Cup 2026

Qatar-born India’s Tahsin Jamshid poised for historic World Cup debut

From the football-frenzied bylanes of Kerala’s Kannur roots to the grandest stage in world sport, teenage winger Tahsin Mohammad Jamshid is on the verge of a defining moment as he stands poised for a FIFA World Cup debut with Qatar.

The 19-year-old, developed through Qatar’s youth academy system and currently turning out for Al-Duhail SC, has been named in the national squad for the tournament—a selection that could see him become one of the first players of Malayali origin to feature on football’s biggest stage, a milestone that resonates strongly with Kerala’s deep-rooted football culture and its global diaspora.

Tahsin made his international debut during Qatar’s World Cup qualification campaign against Afghanistan and was also part of the squad against India, though he did not feature in that match.

He later went on to play in Qatar’s decisive final two qualifying fixtures, further underlining his growing role in the national setup.

Born in Qatar, Tahsin is the second son of Thalassery native Hibasil Jamshid, a chief accountant working in the country, and Shyma.
