Iran has signaled a potential easing of tensions in the region after two consecutive nights passed without reported US military strikes, while officials announced progress in diplomatic efforts concerning navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of being responsible for an attack in the Caspian Sea, alleging that it was carried out at Israel’s direction.
Iranian media reported that an oil tanker exploded after striking a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz, although no further details were immediately available.
Separately, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said discussions with Oman have made progress on mechanisms to regulate maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes.
The diplomatic developments coincided with a pause in hostilities, as no US attacks were reported against Iran for a second consecutive night following nearly two weeks of sustained military operations.
Tehran said it had also suspended its retaliatory attacks in response to the halt in US strikes, raising cautious hopes that the temporary lull could provide an opportunity for further diplomatic engagement.
