Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tuesday that Iran’s top priority at the current stage is to end the war, amid negotiations with the US conducted in an atmosphere of deep mistrust.
Tasnim News Agency reported that Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks in an interview with the English-language Iranian television channel Press TV.
Baghaei said Iran is negotiating in an environment of “severe lack of trust” toward the US, recalling what he described as past attacks during diplomatic talks in 2025 and earlier this year.
He added that Iran cannot ignore what he called “painful experiences,” stressing that the country must remain highly vigilant throughout the diplomatic process.
According to the remarks, Tehran has decided not to spend time on issues it considers too complex to resolve based on previous failed efforts, instead prioritizing ending the conflict, which it described as a concern for the region and the international community.
Baghaei also said that if Washington is truly serious about diplomacy, it should seize the opportunity and demonstrate a minimum level of goodwill, noting that the world is watching its actions.
