‘Iran regional activities, missile program threaten global economy, Gulf investment’

Neutralizing Tehran’s transnational threats would yield significant long-term economic benefits by fostering a more stable environment for global capital -- US National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett

White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett stated on Friday that the Iranian regime’s regional activities and missile program pose a direct threat to the security of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and international investments, ultimately jeopardizing global economic stability.

During a televised interview with Fox News, Hassett characterized the current administration’s stance by highlighting the dangers of a terrorist regime that has been threatening, in essence, to build a nuclear bomb and then hold the entire world hostage using missiles that are already capable of reaching Europe.

The Director emphasized that neutralizing such transnational threats would yield significant long-term economic benefits by fostering a more stable environment for global capital.

He noted that mitigating these primary risk factors is essential to catalyzing increased investment and regional growth.

Hassett specifically identified recurring missile and drone attacks on Gulf states as a major deterrent to regional development.

He pointed out that substantial volumes of potential investment in the Gulf remain unrealized due to heightened investor concerns regarding the Iranian ballistic threat and its impact on regional security.

Furthermore, he underscored the necessity for robust international synergy to eliminate threats to maritime and regional stability, which he described as vital for maintaining a more resilient and stronger global financial system.

This development follows earlier warnings from US President Donald Trump, who indicated that the United States might resume military operations against Iranian targets should the Pakistan-mediated peace negotiations in Islamabad fail to produce a definitive diplomatic resolution.

Earlier this week, the US administration announced a conditional fourteen-day ceasefire with Tehran, predicated on the immediate and secure restoration of unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz for global maritime commerce.
