The Indian Embassy in Kuwait marked the 9th Ayurveda Day, with a celebration that was held at the auditorium on Monday 28 Oct.
This year’s theme for the Ayurveda Day, ‘Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health’ gave an insightful perspective to the guests on the significance of Ayurveda.
In his opening remarks Ambassador of India, H E Dr. Adarsh Swaika, said that the concept of Ayurveda was in consonance with the vision of India’s PM Narendra Modi, who believes that generating quality evidence through innovation in Ayush, is of prime importance for positioning Ayurveda as a leader in holistic and sustainable healthcare solutions for global health.
Further elaborating he said, Ayurveda, meant “the science of life,” was an ancient Indian tradition that began in India over 3000 years ago. It was based on the idea that each person has certain life forces (doshas) and everything in the universe is connected. An imbalance in one area can affect another, he pointed out and said, when the imbalance was not fixed, disease and illness could occur.
The Indian Ambassador stated further that Ayurveda mostly used nutrition, lifestyle changes, and natural treatments. These are used to support balance and a return to health. Ayurveda is very focused on overall health.
Moreover, Ambassador Swaika said that the focus of Government of India on promotion of Ayurveda was evident from the fact that a new Ministry of Ayush was created in 2014.
He also pointed out that Ayurveda was not only gaining greater traction in India, but overseas as well. The persistent efforts of Ministry of Ayush and our Missions abroad, have resulted in legal recognition of Ayurveda, export of Ayurveda products, and signing of bilateral MOUs, in the field of Traditional Medicines (TM) with many countries.
In conclusion, the Ambassador noted that the GCC region including Kuwait, with its openness to diverse traditions, had embraced Ayurveda with enthusiasm, in particular external therapies.
