“Information Minister” highlights key role of ‘Arab News Agencies’ in accurate and credible reporting

Al-Mutairi laid emphasis on several important aspects about reliable and correct information, during the 51st Conference of the General Assembly of the Federation, which was hosted by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi stressed the importance of the role played by Arab news agencies, in conveying reliable and correct information to the Arab recipient, especially in light of the events witnessed by the world at all levels.

This occurred during the meeting between Minister Al-Mutairi and the President and members of the ‘Union of Arab News Agencies (FANA)’ on the occasion of their visit to Kuwait, to participate in the 51st Conference of the General Assembly of the Federation, which was hosted by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

In this significant meeting, it was discussed about strengthening media cooperation among Arab countries in contributing towards the development of media work, and similarly promote integration between various Arab news agencies.

Minister Al-Mutairi praised the role of (FANA) in supporting communication and exchange of news and information between Arab countries, pointing to the importance of coordinating efforts about the challenges faced by the Arab media, especially in light of global transformations.

The Minister emphatically laid stress upon the fact that “Kuwait is committed in providing full support to the Union and everything necessary for the success of its activities. This is being done in order to achieve a common vision of the Arab media, and simultaneously enhance its position on the international arena, pointing to the permanent keenness of the State of Kuwait to support media efforts that promote joint Arab action”.

Moreover, Al-Mutairi said that “media cooperation among Arab countries promotes common values and conveys the true image of Arab societies”.

Further to this, he called upon the heads of delegations, to invest in such meetings and conferences, which aim to develop mechanisms of media work, promote the exchange of expertise and experiences, in a way that serves the issues of the Arab people, and more importantly, reflect upon their cultural identity.

Speaking about collective roles, Minister Al-Mutairi stressed the need to work on creating new partnerships between Arab news agencies that contribute towards unifying efforts and providing meaningful, objective and advanced media content. Which is characterized by utmost professionalism and credibility, and remains united, especially while facing current and future challenges.

Laying greater emphasis on Kuwait’s important role in this significant event, The President of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), and the Acting Director General of the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr. Jamal Al-Kaabi, categorically expressed during the meeting, his thanks and appreciation to the State of Kuwait, for hosting the conference, and also appreciated his fruitful meeting with Minister Al-Mutairi and his directives, which promote joint Arab media work.

Al-Kaabi pointed out that the biggest media challenge for the Union is; how to unify the frameworks for an interconnected Arab media that represents its identity, civilization, and meets the ambitions of our leaders and the peoples of our countries.

On Kuwait’s future role and the State’s significance in the Gulf region, Al-Kaabi specifically highlighted that this conference is a new start for FANA, pointing out that the ‘next meeting of the Federation will also be hosted by Kuwait’.

Minister Al-Mutairi and a delegation from FANA, toured the Ministry of Information’s Museum, which highlight the history and development of media in Kuwait and contain images of works that formed the memory of the public in Kuwait and the region, and a number of devices such as; cameras and sound devices that were used in the works of the Ministry of Information and in its various programs in the past.
