H.H. the Crown Prince meets UN Refugee Chief, explores ways to strengthen global refugee response
- Kuwait exploring ways to enhance humanitarian response and alleviate the suffering of refugees and displaced persons around the world.
Kuwait has reaffirmed its humanitarian engagement with the United Nations as His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representing His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, met United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salih in New York.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, focused on Kuwait’s close cooperation and humanitarian partnership with the UNHCR. Discussions also covered ways to strengthen the humanitarian response and help alleviate the suffering of refugees and displaced people around the world.
The meeting places Kuwait’s humanitarian cooperation with the UNHCR within the wider diplomatic engagement taking place during the UN General Assembly’s high-level week, where international issues and partnerships are being addressed at the highest level. The participation of senior Kuwaiti officials alongside the Crown Prince also underscored the institutional nature of Kuwait’s engagement with the United Nations and its humanitarian agencies.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority Director General Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Ambassador Mansour Ayad Al-Otaibi, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations Affairs Ambassador Sadiq Mohammed Marafi, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Tariq Mohammed Al-Bannai, Director of the Office of the Crown Prince Major General Ahmed Abdulrahman Al-Dai, and Assistant Foreign Minister for the Minister’s Office Affairs Minister Plenipotentiary Abdullah Nasser Al-Obaidi.
The discussions reinforced Kuwait’s stated commitment to maintaining close cooperation with the UNHCR and supporting efforts aimed at strengthening the international humanitarian response to displacement.
