GTD records 351,597 violations, 22,012 accidents in six months
- The General Traffic Department said its campaigns focused on dangerous driving behaviors, including speeding, reckless driving, using mobile phones while driving and failing to comply with traffic regulations.
The General Traffic Department has recorded 351,597 traffic violations and 22,012 accidents during the first half of 2026, as a result of the security authorities intensifying roads monitoring and law enforcement campaigns across the country.
Between January 1 and June 30, traffic officers also received 46,657 reports about various types of offences and arrested 891 people wanted by law in criminal or other cases, in addition to 817 residency violators. The authorities also seized 422 wanted vehicles.
The statistics showed that 259 juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution for driving without a license. Legal action was also taken against the owners of these vehicles involved.
Traffic officers recorded 35 suspected cases of intoxication or drug abuse and apprehended 81 people for not carrying IDs, and referred to arrested to the relevant authorities.
The authorities also impounded 5,609 vehicles and 538 motorcycles for committing various types of violations during the six-month period.

Authorities said patrols would continue to target areas with heavy traffic and high violation rates, while urging motorists to observe speed limits, traffic signals and safe distances to help reduce accidents and protect lives and property.
