Governor Al-Asfar pledges to transform Hawally into a hub of healthy cities
Ali Salem Al-Asfar emphasized the commitment to enhancing efforts across environmental, social, structural, and educational domains impacting public health, as stated during his meeting with a delegation from the WHO visiting Kuwait.
• Hawally Governor Ali Salem Al-Asfar praised the Ministry of Health’s Healthy Cities Office, civil society, and volunteers, reaffirming support for initiatives and highlighting efforts to transform the People’s Area into a healthy city.
Ali Salem Al-Asfar, Governor of Hawally, emphasized the commitment to enhance efforts across environmental, social, structural, and educational domains impacting public health. According to Al Rai newspaper, he highlighted prioritization of key areas and the formulation of strategic goals aimed at transforming all parts of the governorate into cohesive, healthy cities.
This was stated after receiving a delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) visiting the country, which included Dr Samar ElFeky, Regional Advisor for Health Promotion and Social Determinants of Health at WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean Region; Dr. Mohammed Khashoggi, Head of the Healthy Cities Program in Saudi Arabia; Dr. Amal Al-Yahya, Head of the Healthy Cities Office at the Ministry of Health; and the President and members of the People’s Health City.
He praised the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Health’s Healthy Cities Office, as well as the strong cooperation from civil society institutions and volunteer teams. He reaffirmed the governorate’s full support for initiatives benefiting its areas and residents, highlighting an ongoing study to transform the People’s Area into a healthy city.
He commended the volunteer efforts of the teams and groups dedicated to Kuwait, expressing gratitude for the contributions of the Health Cities Committee members and their outstanding role in positively impacting the inclusion of many cities in the Healthy Cities Network.
During the meeting, a visual presentation was provided about the People’s Area and several areas within the Hawally Governorate. The discussion covered all necessary plans and requirements to transform the governorate’s areas into fully healthy cities.
This visit aims to evaluate the health cities in Kuwait and review the activities of the regional coordination committees to ensure that the proposed plans and objectives are being effectively implemented on the ground.
Dr. ElFeky stated in a previous remark that the services provided by the State of Kuwait across various sectors have enabled the country to meet the criteria for evaluating healthy cities from the onset of the evaluation phase. She noted that numerous factors contributed to overcoming the challenges and meeting the standards set by the organization.
