GCC warns UN of heightened Mideast tensions, urges de-escalation and dialogue

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has warned the United Nations of the grave consequences of continued escalation in the Middle East, calling for an immediate halt to military operations and urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint.
The warning came in a statement delivered by Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Tariq Al-Bannai, during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council held Sunday to address growing threats to international peace and security, reports Al-Rai daily.
Speaking on behalf of the GCC, Al-Bannai expressed deep concern over recent developments, particularly attacks on nuclear facilities within Iran—an escalation he described as dangerous for both regional and global stability.
He stressed the need for the Security Council and the international community to take responsibility in ending these violations and ensuring respect for the sovereignty of states and the protection of critical infrastructure, especially nuclear sites under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Al-Bannai emphasized that diplomacy and dialogue remain the most effective paths to resolving disputes and achieving long-term peace, justice, and prosperity. He urged renewed efforts toward political solutions that would open the door to stability and security in the region.
He concluded by reaffirming the GCC’s commitment to supporting all regional and international efforts aimed at defusing tensions and preserving the well-being of peoples across the Middle East and beyond.
