Gang arrested for stealing bank data using fake government sites
Two Egyptians and one Syrian, accused of stealing bank card data through fake websites mimicking official government portals, allegedly used the stolen information to purchase smartphones, which were then smuggled overseas.

The Criminal Security Sector, through the Capital Investigations Department, has arrested a gang of two Egyptians and one Syrian accused of stealing bank card data using fake websites posing as official government portals. They allegedly used the stolen data to buy smartphones for smuggling abroad, reported Arabic daily Al Rai.
Investigations and field follow-ups led to the arrest of the suspects, who were found in possession of electronic devices used to copy bank data, along with several smartphones and forged documents.
During questioning, they admitted to using a fake website that mimicked the Public Authority for Civil Information’s site, which was promoted through search engines to lure victims and steal their financial data.
They have been referred to the competent authorities for necessary legal action.
