Firefighters brought under control a fire that broke out early Sunday at a facility at Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia, with no injuries reported, the Saudi Energy Ministry said.
The ministry said Aramco’s industrial security teams contained the blaze and that relevant authorities were completing procedures to deal with the incident. It did not disclose the cause of the fire.
The incident comes less than three weeks after Aramco shut down its 400,000-barrel-per-day Jazan refinery following an attack attributed to Yemen’s Houthi militants on July 27.
According to a Reuters report citing an IIR consultancy note, the earlier attack damaged the refinery’s Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) complex and tank farm area.
Aramco Chief Executive Amin Nasser said last week that recent attacks on the company’s facilities had caused some production interruptions but expressed confidence that operations could be restored quickly. He said the attacks had not had a material impact on the company’s operations or finances.
