Filipino community in Kuwait marks 128th Independence Day with grand celebration

The Filipino community in Kuwait celebrated the 128th Independence Day of the Philippines at the Crown Plaza on Friday. This much-anticipated event showcased a vibrant display of Filipino culture, strong ties and solidarity among overseas Filipino workers.
The celebration was spearheaded by the Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Jose Cabrera III, the embassy staff and officials, dressed traditional Filipino attire, reflecting the rich heritage of the country.
The opening remarks by Ambassador Cabrera highlighted the importance of Independence Day and the sacrifices made by heroes throughout history to secure freedom for future generations. The theme of this year’s celebration was Freedom, Future, History.
The envoy added “This year, allow me to reflect on one Filipino value that is quiet but deeply powerful ‘compassion’. This sense of shared responsibility is one of the greatest strengths of the Filipino community in Kuwait and elsewhere. Far from home, you have created a home for one another. You celebrate together, pray together, help one another find opportunities, support those in distress, and remind each other that no Filipino should ever feel completely alone.”
The Philippine envoy expressed his gratitude to Kuwait and stated “The Embassy takes this opportunity to express its deep gratitude and appreciation to the State of Kuwait under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. May God protect and preserve them and keep the people and residents of Kuwait safe and well.”
The cultural presentations were a highlight of the event, showcasing the diverse talents and creativity in the Filipino community.
Various organizations took part in the celebration, treating the audience to a series of captivating performances that highlighted the richness of Filipino culture.
Among the evening’s highlights was a dazzling laser show, followed by displays of traditional Filipino attire featuring vibrant colors and intricate craftsmanship.\
Energetic Zumba performances added excitement to the festivities, inviting people of all ages to join in the music and movement.
The celebration concluded with the community anthem “Pinoy Ako” (“I am a Filipino”), inspiring a deep sense of pride, unity, and belonging among participants. The emotional finale underscored the enduring bond shared by Filipinos around the world, transcending distance and cultural boundaries.
The 128th Independence Day celebration more than a festive gathering, it was a meaningful tribute to the Philippines and a reaffirmation of Filipino identity, solidarity, and hope for the future. As the event came to a close, the spirit of independence and patriotism remained alive in the hearts of Filipinos everywhere.
