EPA, Umniah sign MoU to strengthen public-private cooperation for environmental sustainability

The Environment Public Authority (EPA) reaffirmed its dedication to environmental protection and sustainable practices through public-private partnerships.
Acting Director General Nouf Behbehani told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the EPA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Umniah Company to promote eco-friendly building and facility applications, reports Al-Rai daily.
She noted that the agreement reflects Kuwait’s commitment to raising environmental awareness, preserving natural resources, and advancing sustainable development in line with the country’s national vision.
Behbehani emphasized that collaboration with the private sector plays a pivotal role in supporting innovative initiatives that foster community engagement and encourage environmentally sound practices.
Farah Shaaban, Chief Operating Officer at Umniah, said the company has been a pioneer in plastic bottle collection in Kuwait, helping spread the principles of a circular economy and volunteer-driven environmental action.
She explained that the MoU focuses on several areas, including launching awareness programs for different community groups, integrating eco-friendly practices within institutions, and promoting recycling efforts.
Shaaban added that the partnership aims to spread a culture of recycling, mitigate the risks of plastic waste, and strengthen circular economy mechanisms through joint projects and practical initiatives.
