Empowerment of women drives sustainable development in Kuwait

Jassem Al Mubaraki, President of the National Court of Human Rights, said ‘Kuwait Woman Day’ reflects a deep-rooted belief in Kuwaiti women’s rights as foundational pillars for shaping the nation’s future.

“The states designation of May 16 as ‘Kuwait Woman Day’ each year reflects the unlimited support that women enjoy from the wise leadership led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-JaberAl-Sabah,” said Counselor Huda Al-Shayji, Chairman of the Family Rights Committee of the National Bureau for Human Rights.

Jassem Al Mubaraki, President of the National Court of Human Rights, emphasized that Kuwait Woman Day on May 16, celebrated annually to honor women’s achievements across various sectors, has evolved into a significant cultural hallmark of Kuwait. This transformation, supported by the political leadership under His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, signifies a pivotal step in Kuwait’s institutional and legal development. The celebration underscores the principles of participation and diversity, reflecting a deep-rooted belief in Kuwaiti women’s rights as foundational pillars for shaping Kuwait’s future.

In his speech during the conference Kuwait Woman Day, which carried the slogan Protecting and Empowering Women: A National Responsibility, Al Mubaraki indicated that women’s empowerment is at the heart of sustainable development and in the implementation of the State of Kuwait’s Vision 2035,considering that one of the most important pillars of sustainable development is enhancing women’s participation in decision-making positions.

The Arab region, and indeed the whole world, is facing an unprecedented threat posed by ongoing Israeli aggression. Israel and its far-right government are committing genocide and war crimes against humanity, he added.

Meanwhile, Counselor Huda Al-Shayji, Chairman of the Family Rights Committee of the National Bureau for Human Rights, said, The state’s designation of May 16 as Kuwait Woman Day each year reflects the unlimited support that women enjoy from the wise leadership led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. It also acknowledges their efforts, contributions, and achievements, serving as an incentive for them to continue giving and advancing progress, hand in hand with their fellow countrymen, to build their homeland.

She highlighted the committee’s keenness to communicate with many authorities concerned with womens affairs. This led to field visits to family courts, the community police department, and shelter centers, as well as cooperation with several civil society institutions focused on women’s issues. The committee also actively follows up on these matters, conducts studies, and proposes solutions.
