Education Ministry prepares to open 5 new schools for 2026-2027 academic year
The Ministry of Education is accelerating preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year, with comprehensive measures underway across its sectors and educational districts to ensure schools are ready before students return.
As part of the preparations, the ministry plans to open five new schools, including two kindergartens in Al-Mutlaa City, a girls’ secondary school in West Abdullah Al-Mubarak, and two schools dedicated to gifted and creative students, one for boys and one for girls.
The Ministry has completed arrangements to provide furniture and essential equipment for the new schools through the Supplies and Warehouses Department. The facilities will be equipped with student desks, chairs, office furniture, computers and necessary technical equipment for classrooms, teachers’ rooms, school administration offices, laboratories and school radio facilities.
Despite regional developments, the ministry confirmed that preparations are progressing as scheduled, with maintenance contracts for air-conditioning systems and water coolers already in place. Final procedures for elevator maintenance contracts are also being completed.
The preparation of school textbooks is continuing, with printing being carried out by around 14 private printing presses in cooperation with the government printing press. Distribution to ministry warehouses is scheduled to begin from August 15 until September 1.
Engineering teams from the Educational Projects and Facilities Department are conducting continuous field inspections of schools across various educational districts to identify maintenance requirements and complete necessary repairs before the new academic year.
The ministry is also monitoring the implementation of the “Balagh” reporting system, ensuring that technical issues reported by school administrations are addressed promptly.
Meanwhile, educational districts are preparing school staffing plans, identifying vacancies and finalizing requirements for academic departments. This follows the completion of supervisory position interviews, including technical assessments for department head positions, as well as training plans for educational staff.
The ministry has also approved the budgets for its various sectors for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, instructing departments to coordinate with the Supplies and Warehouses Department to meet their requirements while prioritizing existing contracts, awarded tenders and expected projects.
All allocated funds must be utilized before March 31, in line with financial regulations.
In addition, technical guidance teams have submitted proposals to enhance distance learning by updating the Microsoft Teams platform, while conducting internal workshops as part of professional development programs for teaching staff.
Several educational departments have also completed the transfer of damaged materials from existing schools to new facilities and are coordinating with the Supplies and Warehouses Department to meet upcoming needs.
The ministry identified five key departments responsible for supporting school preparations:
- Human Resources Management: Handling staffing requirements and new job needs.
- Information Systems Management: Providing computers and technical equipment.
- Public Services Management: Arranging transportation, cleaning and support services.
- Maintenance Department: Managing construction work, repairs and renovations.
- General Records Monitoring: Handling maintenance of equipment and supplies such as machines and ink.
The ministry said the ongoing preparations are aimed at ensuring a smooth start to the new academic year and improving the readiness of Kuwait’s education infrastructure.
