Cultural diplomacy vital in strengthening ties: Turkish envoy

The Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait, Tuba Nur Sönmez, expressed her happiness at the growing interest in learning the Turkish language and culture in Kuwaiti society.

Sonmez revealed to Al-Qabas that the opening of the Yunus Emre Cultural Center in Kuwait, was with the aim of continuing to promote the Turkish language and culture, stressing the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening ties and understanding between peoples.

She noted that many Kuwaitis expressed their appreciation for the “Turkish Village” in Kuwait, which hosted many cultural and folklore events and Turkish cuisine.

She added: “On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries, our embassy plans to organize many cultural events in Kuwait this year, including the Turkish Film Festival, Turkish Culinary Week, concerts and exhibitions.”

She went on to say, the Turkish cuisine is distinguished by its diverse flavors, pointing out that the cultural similarity between Turkish and Arab cuisine is clear, which reflects the historical intertwining between our cultures, and for this reason it should not be surprising that food is among the most favorite attractions for Kuwaiti visitors in Turkey, adding: “We have witnessed an increase in the number of Turkish restaurants in Kuwait, which is evidence of the growing interest in Turkish cuisine.”
