Cool breezes, good rains motivate fasting individuals to walk

The refreshing rains have inspired fasting individuals to embrace walking, a beloved activity during the holy month of Ramadan, as many seize the opportunity to kick start a health and fitness regimen aimed at weight loss and overall well-being.

Importantly, walking is one of the best exercises during Ramadan, requiring minimal effort while boosting blood circulation and revitalizing the body.

However, the timing of walking plays a crucial role in determining whether it benefits you or leads to negative effects.

Abdullah Al-Otaibi believes that walking just before breakfast can be beneficial, especially in pleasant weather, but it may also cause low blood sugar levels and dehydration. On the other hand, walking after breakfast serves as an excellent way to aid digestion and enhance physical fitness.

Jaber Al-Mahdi shared that he has made walking a daily habit during Ramadan, dedicating an hour after Tarawih prayers. He finds that this routine enhances his overall energy and well-being.

Amina Al-Hamad prefers walking before breakfast, as she believes it helps her relax and maintain a balanced diet without overeating.

5 Important Tips

  1. Choose a walking time that aligns with your body’s endurance and fasting tolerance to maximize benefits and avoid fatigue.
  2. Wear breathable clothing and comfortable shoes to stay cool and prevent overheating while walking.
  3. Ensure proper hydration by drinking sufficient water between Iftar and Suhoor to avoid dehydration while walking.
  4. Avoid walking under direct sunlight, especially in hot weather, to prevent exhaustion and dehydration.
  5. Start walking gradually and pace yourself, especially if you’re not accustomed to regular exercise, to avoid exhaustion.

Timing is Crucial

The ideal timing for walking differs from one person to another, but experts agree that the best times include:

  • One hour before breakfast: Suitable for those with endurance, provided they drink enough water during Suhoor.
  • Two hours after breakfast: Allows the body to regain energy, making walking more comfortable.
  • Before Suhoor: Ideal for early risers, as the weather is cooler and the body remains well-hydrated.
